I directed and edited 17 x 50 mins Culture Shows between 2007-8.
Every week we had a band on the show and here’s a selection of some of my favourites.
Supergrass, at their cocky and fabulous best, performing for our 100th show.

Simple, steady shots matched a beautiful performance by Sigur Rós. The band play this acoustic version of an album track especially for The Culture Show.
The location was their studio outside of Reykjavik, a former municipal swimming pool.

Patience and understanding turned a challenge into a triumph when Ray and his guitarist performed a song they hadn’t rehearsed and couldn’t remember the words to.

I decided to film Dizzee outside on The National Theatre’s roof on London’s South Bank.
His songs are about life on the streets and I wanted to see the buses on the bridge behind him and a general sense of life going on outside, albeit from a raised open stage.

This was the first television performance by Example and I decided to film in the skateboard park underneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall - a location matching his energy and humour.

One of my favourites, this dynamic combination of Armada and Buena really worked and they lit up the dull interior of the Queen Elizabeth Hall on a wet and windy May day.

For the end of our Film Special, I persuaded Underworld to roll their heavy decks into a cornfield in Essex to perform their iconic hit from Trainspotting, complete with a Dalmatian!
04:12
This performance followed the transmission of my Culture Show film about the band recording its second album.
This was an acoustic version of a track from that album. It proved a big hit with Maxїmo fans everywhere.

Bryan performs a famous Bob Dylan song in his own inimitable style to open the show.
He was promoting his album of Bob Dylan covers but, luckily for us, also agreed to a rare television interview with Lauren Laverne.
07:36
This was Mika’s first British television appearance. He performed unplugged and our audience was among the first to get a taste of this rising star.
